Generally this takes place between October and December. The timing of the run varies from year to year and is often dependent on high-water events, with fish entering the creek after rain events. In the fall Atlantic salmon and brown trout begin entering the stream on their fall spawning runs. Good baits are egg sacs, streamers and night crawlers. Rainbows enter the stream on their spring spawning run. Rainbow trout are the main salmonid in the creek in the spring, although some Atlantic salmon and brown trout are taken in the spring as well though. Below Ithaca Falls, the fishery is a Finger Lakes tributary fishery where lake run rainbow trout, brown trout, Atlantic salmon, and smallmouth bass are the main species.īelow Ithaca Falls, the lake run trout and salmon fishery is generally a spring and fall event. From State Highway 90 parking area go west on 90 about 300 yards to Lake Como Road. On State Highway 90 approximately five miles west of Homer. Parking area is just past the County Boundary. From State Highway 90 go south on Hinman Road for approximately 1.3 miles. Take Groton City Road south to Old Stage Road. From State Highway 90 go south on Hinman Road to Groton City. There are four official PFR parking areas and anglers also use unofficial pull-offs along the stream. There are 10.9 miles of Public Fishing Rights (PFR's) along Fall Creek. The creek begins near Lake Como and then meanders for approximately 33 miles to Ithaca, where it enters into Cayuga Lake. It's not visible when you continue along the trail, but you'll have up-close-and-personal views of the middle and lower tiers when you've arrived at the falls.Fall Creek, located in Cayuga and Tompkins counties, is a major tributary to Cayuga Lake. Once you've spotted the falls, take a minute to look at the top tier. The trailhead will be clearly visible from the parking area. If parking is open, you can park in the lot for Falls Creek Fall trailhead (45.905755, -121.939890). Note: Keep in mind that NF-3062 will be closed from December to April, so you'll need to park on the side of the road to complete the trail. Most navigation apps will be able to map you to the trailhead. ![]() Trailhead #152 is located 15 miles north of Carson off of Wind River Highway. ![]() My model used micro-spikes to carefully hike down below closer to the action. The 3.4 mile roundtrip trail to the falls is well maintained and offers everything from a lovely roaring creek to a plethora of old growth forest, both teeming with life.
